ALEXEI TARTAKOVSKI was born in Moscow, Russia in March, 1989 and moved to America with his family as an infant. At a very early age, he showed excellent pitch and demonstrated a love of classical music.
At the age of 6 he began piano lessons in Gainesville, Florida. His first professional teachers were Eleanor Sokoloff and Marcantonio Barone in Philadelphia. Later, he studied with renowned pianist and pedagogue Nina Lelchuk.
In 2005, he entered the Juilliard Pre-College Division to study piano with Julian Martin and conducting with Julien Benichou. A year later, he successfully graduated and was accepted to The Juilliard School.
Alexei has given numerous solo and chamber music recitals all over the East Coast. In March of 2003 he played as a soloist with the Old York Road Symphony Orchestra. In October of 2004, Alexei’s piano trio was featured performing the Mendelssohn D minor Trio at the International Council of Fine Arts Deans Convention in Philadelphia. In June of 2005, Alexei participated in the International Academy of Music in St. Petersburg, Russia where he was selected to play at such prestigious venues as the Composers’ Union Concert Hall. For the past three years, he took part in the International Keyboard Institute and Festival at the Mannes College of Music in New York City. In June of 2006, Alexei won third prize at the prestigious national New York Piano Competition and was consequently engaged in solo concerts in New York City, the New York area, and Washington, D.C.
In March of 2007, Alexei, being by far the youngest contestant, won third prize in the first Rolf and Brigitte Gardey International Piano Competition in Daytona Beach, Florida and performed with the Jacksonville Symphony. Alexei was chosen to perform in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in June 2007 as a winner of the American Fine Arts Festival. He received the First Prize in the Piano Category for his performance at Weill Recital Hall. Also in 2007, Alexei received an Honorable Mention from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA) for participation in its youngARTS program.
Alexei has performed in the master-classes of such world-renowned artists as Fabio Bidini, Alexander Braginsky, Alexander Kobrin, Jerome Rose, Abbey Simon, Ruth Slenczynska, and Oxana Yablonskaya. Alexei is featured in a documentary, entitled Beyond the Practice Room, which follows the passion for music in twenty two top pianists selected nationwide, musicians described as having "dedication, poise and amazing talent" by the New York Daily News.
Alexei is bilingual (English and Russian), speaks fluent German, and has been recognized as a National Merit Scholar. His interests include reading, watching films, art, and conducting studies.
Currently, Alexei is studying at the Juilliard School.
